Frequently asked questions

Question 1: What are the dimensions of your lights?

Answer: Please contact us if you require the dimensions of any piece you are interested in purchasing.

Question 2: I like a ceiling fitting but I am worried it is too large or too small for my ceiling height.

Answer: Many of our ceiling lights can be altered to make them larger or smaller, so do not dismiss them straight away. Give us a call and we will happy to discuss your requirements further and give you plain honest advice about whether they can be altered to match your requirements.

Question 3: What size wattage bulb can your lamps take?

Answer: As a rule all lamps can take up to a 60w bulb. Plafonniers can take a 100w bulb. Very small lamps and nightlights can usually only use a small "pigmy" bulb which has a maximum of 25w.

Question 4: Do I need to get an electrician to rewire your lights?

Answer: No, all our lights are rewired for you so that they can be immediately installed into your home. We do so sympathetically taking into account the design of the lamp to be restored.
Please note Jones Antique Lighting recommend that you always get a qualified electrician to undertake the installation of any ceiling fitting and wall lights and complete a necessary inspection and testing certificate.

Question 5: I live in a foreign country which runs on 110v not 240v do I need to have your lights rewired?

Answer: No, the wiring is perfectly safe to use, however if you require E.S or S.E.S. bulbholders instead of B.C bulbholders then these will need to be changed. Please call us regarding this matter and we will be able to advice you further.

Question 6: What types of bulbholders are used to wire your lamps?

Answer: Unless specified all our lamps are wired with Bayonet Cap (B.C) bulbholders, which is the standard English and French bulbholder. If you are an international customer and require Edison Screw (E.S) bulbholders then please contact us to discuss whether a conversion is possible.

Question 7: Why do pendant lights and plafonniers often have reproduction fitments?

Answer: Pendants and plafonniers were often produced with original cord supports. Unfortunately these are now deemed electrically unsafe as they do not meet necessary modern-day standards and we are therefore unable to sell them.

Question 8: What is the length of your pendant lights and plafonniers?

Answer; We supply as standard chain 35cm in length available in brass, chrome, bronze or oxidised brass finishes. Please advise if you require longer chain sets to be supplied. Please note an additional cost for this service may apply.

Question 9: I have seen a set of wall lights/ lampshades/pair of hanging fittings/table lamps that I like but I only need one. Will you consider selling it to me?

Answer: Generally the answer is unfortunately no, all our lights are sold as described e.g. singles, pairs, etc. Occasionally we may be prepared to split a set of wall lights, etc., and provide a quote, but Jones Antique Lighting reserves the right not to do so.

Question 10: I have seen some fittings (metalwork) I would like to purchase but don't require the lampshades. Will you consider selling them to me? What about selling only the glass lampshades?

Answer. Again, we may be prepared to occasionally quote a price for the fitting only, but reserve the right not to do so. Similarly, it is unlikely that we would be prepared to sell the glass lampshades from a fitting. However, in all cases we would be pleased to advise you.

Question 11: I have seen a light fitting that I like but I don't like the glass lampshades. Can I change the shades for others I have seen on your site or can you advice me of some alternatives?

Answer: If you have seen an alternative lampshade or set of lampshades that you prefer for a fixture you wish to purchase or you want advice on alternative shades for a fixture then we may be able to help.

Question 12: What do you mean when you say your lights are restored?

Often lights arrive to us in a bad state of repair. At Jones Antique Lighting we take pride in restoring all our lights to their former glory. Our aim is to present an honest representation of every light from when it was first made. This often involves using a specialist engineer to make essential repairs, polishing, lacquering, re-plating and cleaning.

Question 13: What is an "AS FOUND" item?

Answer: Due to the age of our lights glass often gets small cracks or chips and metalwork can often pick up small dents and imperfections. If this damage is deemed significant enough to reduce the value of a light we describe the light “AS FOUND”. Lights described “AS FOUND” will always be priced in accordance with their condition, which can be as much as 50% below the normal sale price. Customers are always welcome to obtain a detailed condition report from Jones Antique Lighting on any “AS FOUND” item before purchase.

PLEASE NOTE: Glass lampshades with insignificant chips to gallery rims and plafonnier edges will not be described "As Found" as this is very common place. Jones Antique Lighting deem this to be part of the general wear and tear expected of glass of this age. Such minor imperfections are considered to reduce the value of a piece in only a negligible way, if at all.

Question 14: I like an "As Found" item can I have a discount because it is damaged?

No, we automatically reduce the asking price down in line to what we believe is the lights true worth in its current condition. This is often 25-50% less than its normal value.

Question 15: I have a light to sell would you be interested?

Answer: Yes, If you are looking to sell an antique lamp, including any old lampshades you may have, please e-mail or post us a photograph/s for consideration. We will try to advise you if we are personally not interested in purchase.

Question 16: What methods of payment do you accept?

PAYPAL: Account Holders (via website)

PAYPAL : Non Account Holders with Credit or Debit Card (via website)

BACS/ CHEQUE: Contact Jones Antique Lighting

CASH: Collection only

Jones Antique Lighting is linked with the PAYPAL payment gateway. Question 19: When will my goods be despatched to me?

Question 20: What is the difference between an insured and an uninsured delivery?

An uninsured delivery is completely at the customer’s risk and there will be no compensation awarded by Jones Antique Lighting if their purchase is late, lost, stolen or damaged in transit. Our Insured delivery service pays out up to the full value of your purchased goods if they are lost, stolen or damaged in transit.

Question 21: How do I make a claim for Lost or stolen Goods?

If your lights have not arrived within 7 days of dispatch then customers must report this to Jones Antique Lighting, Jones Antique Lighting will then investigate and attempt to recover the consignment within 28 days. If goods are unrecovered by Jones Antique Lighting within 28 days then they will be presumed lost or stolen and you will be entitled to a full refund. Failure by any customer to report their delayed, lost or stolen consignment to Jones Antique Lighting may result in the delay of the recovery of their goods or any compensation they may receive.

Question 22: How do I make a claim for Damaged Goods?

PLEASE NOTE: Customers who fail to report damaged goods to Jones Antique Lighting within 24hours of delivery will not be entitled to any form of compensation.
