A wrought-iron desk lamp, by an unknown maker, designed with trailing ivy and complimented by a green and yellow “pate-de-verre” lampshade certainly by André Delatte but apparently unsigned. France, c.1920-30

André Delatte, Nancy 1887–1953

  • André Delatte was a major French glassmaker and a fierce rival of Daum
  • André Delatte founded a small glassworks “Les Verreries de l’Est SA” at Jarville, near Nancy France in 1921
  • He aggressively hired skilled workers away from Daum. This led to a famous legal battle in 1922 where Daum sued him for “infringement” a case they ultimately lost, as the judge ruled Delatte’s designs were sufficiently distinct.
  • His glass is signed “A.Delatte, Nancy” , “Javil” or Loti,Nancy
