- Charles Ranc was a prominent French lighting designer and manufacturer who in 1909 opened his company Bronzes d’éclairage C. Ranc in Paris at 64 rue de la Folie-Mericourt.
- He focused on “bronzes d’éclairage” (lighting bronzes). His work is celebrated for the precision of its finely chiselled metal and elegant proportions.
- The firm later became Ranc Frères in the mid-1930s after his brothers and sister joined the business.
- Ranc had a close and documented exclusive partnership with the Verreries Schneider (Le Verre Français) in the 1920s.
- In the 1930’s Art Deco period their lights were modernised in nickel plated bronze or coppered brass mounts using opalescent shades often (but not exclusively) produced by the Jean Gauthier, Ezanville glass factory (EZAN).
